Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Will Allen is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair his right thumb, reports Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.
He was injured in Sunday’s victory over Green Bay, and had been serving as the third safety. Corey Lynch projects to be the next up. The Buccaneers like the future of Lynch having signed him off of the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad in September.
Allen has missed a total of four games over the previous five seasons. He’s been one of the team’s better special teams players the past few seasons, and Cummings speculated he could be lost for the season. Allen is playing under a one-year contract.
