Biggs: Wesley reaches out to apologize for hit

Carolina Panthers special teams ace Dante Wesley reached out to Tampa Bay Buccaneers return man Clifton Smith and apologized for the vicious hit he put on him Sunday, one that led the NFL to suspend Wesley for one game without pay this week.

Wesley launched himself into the head and neck of Smith as he waited for a punt to come down. Wesley drew a 15-yard penalty and was ejected from the game. Smith suffered a concussion and a throat injury.

“He explained it just like he had it in the paper,” Smith told the Tampa Tribune. “He was just trying to make a play. It's understandable. We left it at that.

“He apologized. I accepted his apology. I appreciated it and I'll see him again.”

Smith’s status for Sunday’s game in London vs. the New England Patriots remains up in the air. If you’re looking for the rematch, the Bucs travel to Carolina on Dec. 6.
