Bills, Fitzpatrick agree to new contract

The Buffalo Bills and Ryan Fitzpatrick had been working for the past several weeks on an contract extension for the quarterback, and finally reached an agreement on Friday.

According to ESPN.com, the deal is worth $59 million total with $24 million in guarantees. National Football Post's Andrew Brandt says the deal is comparable a number of other quarterback deals that have been completed over the past three years – including ones for Aaron Rodgers, Jay Cutler, Kevin Kolb and Matt Cassel.

The potential good news for the Bills is this – provided Fitzpatrick lives up to the contract with his performance – Buffalo may have just found its franchise quarterback without having to go through the growing pains of drafting a rookie and hoping he pans out. The Bills missed with both J.P. Losman and Trent Edwards in recent years.
