Buffalo Bills rookie running back C.J. Spiller put on a show, accelerating away from the Indianapolis Colts' defense with an explosive 31-yard touchdown run.

This was his NFL debut as a starter with Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch sidelined with injuries.

Drafted with the ninth overall pick, the speedster from Clemson turned on the jets. On the scoring run, he broke through tacklers and put a move on safety Antoine Bethea.

"I think you can see why we drafted C.J.," Bills coach Chan Gailey said. "Obviously, running the ball is what he does best. And he made an unbelievable run on that touchdown."

Spiller rushed for 54 yards on 10 carries.

"I knew there were going to be a lot of people that wanted to see what I could with both of our guys down," Spiller said. "It felt good to get out there and make a couple of plays."

Added quarterback Trent Edwards: "I think what this means is we've got a really good running back. C.J. Spiller, it was a lot of fun handing the ball to him. He made some good defensive players miss."
