The Buffalo Bills expect offensive tackle Demetrius Bell to reclaim his job on the left side when training camp launches.

Out since having surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament last November against the Tennessee Titans, Bell has predicted he'll be back in time for the first practice.

That opinion is shared by Bills coach Chan Gailey.

"I think he’s ahead of schedule and at one time it was a question of whether he’d make the first of training camp," Gailey said in remarks distributed by the team. "I think now there’s no question he’ll make the first of training camp."

With so many injuries on the offensive line last season and the team holding a quarterback competition between Trent Edwards, Brian Brohm and Ryan Fitzpatrick, health and constancy on the offensive line are necessities.

"It’s going to be vital for that group," Gailey said. "The continuity and the communication in the offensive line is one of the secrets to success in our business. So having that group on the same page will really help."

No matter what, the offensive line is going to be a very young group.

"If they can play, it doesn’t bother me," Gailey said. "If they can’t play, it bothers me. The bottom line is can they play or can they not play? There’s a bunch of good rookies and first-year and second-year guys out there playing today. So if they can play, it doesn’t bother me. Age doesn’t bother me, we’ll play the best guys."
