Bills hire Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator

The Buffalo Bills acted swiftly to replace defensive coordinator Mike Pettine after he was hired as the new Cleveland Browns' head coach.

They hired former Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz as their defensive coordinator tonight.

Schwartz is a former defensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans and a former Ravens and Browns assistant coach.

Schwartz, 47, is a highly-regarded defensive mind.

He was defensive coordinator in Tennessee from 2001 to 2008.

The Bills have done well to hire such an experienced defensive coach to replace Pettine.

“We are excited to add a talented and accomplished coordinator in Jim Schwartz to our staff,” Bills head coach Doug Marrone said. “Schwartz has led aggressive and productive defensive units throughout his time in the NFL and we feel our defense will continue to improve under his leadership.”
