Bills hope to extend Fred Jackson

Fred Jackson didn't come into the NFL by the easiest of routes.

He went to tiny Coe College, spent time on the Buffalo Bills practice squad, but once he got his opportunity, Jackson made the most of it. He ran for nearly 1,000 yards in 2011, despite missing the final six games with a broken leg.

Now, Bills GM Buddy Nix says the team would like to extend the 30-year-old running back's contract, which currently has one more year to run.

“Fred and I have talked,” Nix said on the Bills website. “We want to extend Fred. I’d like for Fred to finish his career as a Bill. He’s meant a lot to us. I’ve got great respect for him. We do want Fred back and we do intend to try to work out a deal with him. I’ve told him that. What we said is what we’re going to do.”
