The Buffalo Bills have released veteran pass rusher Shawne Merriman, the club announced.

Merriman, once one of the NFL's most feared outside linebackers with the San Diego Chargers, was let go by the Bills after he struggled in the club's first two preseason games.

Merriman was trying to come back from an Achilles injury from last season, but now heads back to the waiver wire, where the Bills claimed him during the 2010 season.
