Bills say bye bye to VY

The Vince Young Era in Buffalo was short, but not very sweet.

The Bills released the former third overall pick in the 2006 draft, according to a tweet sent out by Young, says the Buffalo News.

Young signed with the Bills in the off-season to compete with Tyler Thigpen for the No. 2 spot on the Bills depth chart behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. He appeared to be winning that battle, but a 10 for 26 performance with two interceptions against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 38-7 loss.

That prompted the Bills to acquire Tarvaris Jackson from Seattle, something that became official on Monday, leaving Young (and perhaps Thigpen too) on the outside looking in in Buffalo.

His release by the Bills makes for a quick fall for Young, who was not only the Tennessee Titans' first pick in '06 but was Offensive Rookie of the Year that season. But his well-publicized troubles and emotional outbursts ended his time there.

Since then, he has worn out welcomes in Philadelphia and now Buffalo with his inconsistent play. The good news: At least in Buffalo he is close to the Canadian border, in case the Hamilton Tiger-Cats come calling.
