Tom Brady, Wes Welker and the New England Patriots are partying on South Beach with a 38-24 victory over the host Miami Dolphins.
Not only are the Patriots partying, they are tying records and reaching milestones in the process.
Brady and Welker hooked up on a 99-yard touchdown pass to ice the season-opening game as Brady finished with 517 yards on 32 of 48 passes for four touchdowns.
The 99-yard play allowed Brady to become the 11th man to join the exclusive 500-yard passing club, which includes Hall of Famers like Norm Van Brocklin, Y.A. Tittle, Dan Marino and Warren Moon, as well as Brady's contemporaries Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger. And the list also includes some not so superstar quarterbacks like Elvis Grbac and Vince Ferragamo as well.
Brady's fourth-quarter TD toss to Welker marked just the 13th time in NFL history a play has gone 99 yards from scrimmage. It was the second time in the history of Monday Night Football for a 99-yard play from scrimmage, alongside Tony Dorsett's famous run for Dallas against Minnesota in 1983.
In a losing cause, Dolphins QB Chad Henne threw for 416 yards and two scores on 30 of 49 passes.
