Brandon Carr calls himself 'team player' in re-doing contract

Brandon Carr says he is a “team player” and that is what motivated him to restructure his contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

The cornerback, who was a major addition in free agency a year ago, is one of five players to this point to re-do deals with the Cowboys.

“I restructured my contract basically just to free up some money to get some more players in,” Carr said Friday, according to the Dallas Morning News. “I’m a team player. I believe in getting as many guys as possible that can help us get to our goal, and that’s to win a championship.
 

“This is another step in the right direction, not only myself, but other guys restructured as well. That’s a good sign that guys are willing to restructure their contracts in order to get new guys in or get better guys in to help us, hopefully, get a Super Bowl.”

We’re not sure how team-oriented it is. Carr didn’t lose any money in the deal. He was due to earn a base salary of $14.3 million this season and that was reduced all the way down to $715,000, according to the report, with the bulk of the base salary converted to bonus money. That spreads the cap hit over the remaining life of the contract.

The bottom line is the Cowboys have more work to do and it is unlikely they will be very active in free agency.
