Running back will have to restructure to stick with Giants Brad Biggs
Brandon Jacobs took a $1.75 million pay cut to remain with the New York Giants this past season.
He’s likely going to have to do that again to stick with the team in 2012. And that’s something Jacobs realizes.
Jacobs is due $4.9 million this year with $500,000 scheduled to be payed March 17, four days after the start of the new league year. According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Jacobs will likely be cut if he doesn’t restructure the deal.
“Like I said the last time: As long as it’s fair,” Jacobs told Vacchiano.” “There’s something that can be done. I do put a lot of hard work and dedication into what I do as well. But as long as it’s fair, things can happen.”
Jacobs played for $2.9 million this past season and it’s worth wondering if the Giants will look to cut deeper this time given his production level. The fact of the matter is, while he took a $1.75 million pay cut for 2011, he might not have earned $2.9 million elsewhere. He should keep that in mind this time around. The Giants – even at a reduced rate – might be the best option for him.
