The New York Giants have placed veteran running back Brandon Jacobs on injured reserve with a knee injury.

He finished the season with 238 yards rushing and four touchdowns and two receptions for 13 yards in seven games.

Andre Brown and Peyton Hillis are the primary backs for the Giants.

Jacobs, 31, won two Super Bowl rings with the Giants previously and was with the San Francisco 49ers last season, but it wasn't a good fit.

Jacobs is expected to undergo surgery after the season.

He was replaced on the active roster when linebacker Marcus Dowtin was promoted from the practice squad.

The Giants cut linebacker Darin Drakeford from the practice squad, signing defensive back Chaz Powell and defensive end Kendrick Adams to the practice squad.
