Updating an earlier NFP report, the National Football Post has confirmed that Mark Mangino is out as the head football coach at the University of Kansas, according to a team source. Mangino resigned at 5:00pm central today. He had been the Jayhawks head coach for the past eight seasons.
After going 12-1 in 2007 and beating Virginia Tech 24-21 in the Orange Bowl, Mangino's Jayhawks went 13-12 over the past two seasons. Kansas closed out the 2009 season losing their last seven games to finish 5-7.
The Jayhawks players were told during a team meeting that took place at 6:30pm central today that the University is planning to hire a new coach within the next 10-14 days, according to a team source.
