Brett Favre: 'I would love to go beat the Saints'

Brett Favre got together his old friend Al Jones of the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald to talk about his recovery from ankle surgery and, you know, whether he’s in or out for the 2010 NFL season with the Minnesota Vikings.

The article doesn’t come out until Friday, but the savvy folks at the Sun Herald put a snippet on the World Wide Web this afternoon because, well, Favre’s reach extends well beyond Mississippi.

And Jones reports that Favre is “itching” (or jonesing?) for another shot at the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. A late pick by Favre in the NFC Championship Game set the Saints up for victory and a trip to the Super Bowl.

The signal caller has yet to confirm he is returning for a 20th season. Our best guess is he does so after the Vikings close up shop this summer at Minnesota State University-Mankato. That would bring him in at about the same time he reported a year ago when he picked things up might quick with his new team.

Jones reports Favre is making eight-mile bicycle rides as part of his recommended exercise in his rehabilitation from the ankle surgery that was performed by Dr. James Andrews.

“I would love to go beat the Saints,” Favre told Jones. “I know I can still play at a high level. Last year was a great year, but it could have been better (winning the NFC Championship).’’

Favre might not have to wait too long for that shot. The Vikings kick off the 2010 season at New Orleans. We’ll look for more Favre in Friday’s edition.
