Broncos safety wants to stay on roster Aaron Wilson
Denver Broncos veteran safety Brian Dawkins wants to ensure that he remains with the AFC West club.
So, he's willing to accept a paycut if that's what it takes to do so.
The eight-time Pro Bowl selection has earned nearly $9 million during the past two seasons after signing with the Broncos following a lengthy tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to the Denver Post, Dawkins is due a $6 million base salary this year because he triggered an escalator clause that boosted his salary from $2.24 million. Per the report, the Broncos want to reduce that salary by removing the majority of his $3.76 million escalator.
"When I signed this deal I knew what it was," Dawkins told the Post. "It was basically a two-year deal. I knew after a couple years there was a balloon (mechanism) and we most likely would have to restructure. That's no big deal to me."
