Brian Orakpo had surgery to repair his left shoulder on Tuesday.
The Washington Redskins linebacker announced the news on his Twitter account, indicating the procedure was performed in Penascola, Fla. He injured his left shoulder and pectoral muscle in the season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to the Washington Post.
“Just had successful shoulder surgery in Pensacola,” Orakpo wrote “(T)hanks everybody for their support! Now time for a speedy recovery HTTR!”
Orakpo led the Redskins with nine sacks and has 28 ½ through his first three seasons. He had led the defense or tied for the lead each season he has been in the league. Orakpo was a Pro Bowl performer in his first two seasons.
Orakpo had two sacks of Michael Vick in the season finale before injuring his shoulder. He was forced to watch the second half from the sideline.
