Brohm to get a long look

Buffalo Bills quarterback Brian Brohm will get an early audition for the starting job this week.

As a second-year player, he'll be attending a rookie minicamp along with seventh-round quarterback Levi Brown.

“I think it’s a pretty big advantage going into OTAs and the next minicamps to get this time under my belt,” Brohm told the Bills' official website. “You see the offense develop, you get to run the plays and see how they unfold and how coach likes to call them and what he wants with different coverages. It’s five extra days that you get to go out there and compete and be in the meeting room with the coaches and see what they want out of the quarterbacks. It’s definitely an advantage.”

Signed off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad last season, Brohm is competing with Trent Edwards, and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

He started his first NFL game last season against the Atlanta Falcons.

“The biggest thing I took away from it is that I can play at this level,” Brohm said. “I felt like I did the job they asked me to do. We had a real basic game plan. They didn’t ask me to do a whole lot of things. We tried to keep it close, not make many mistakes and just do my job.

"I felt like the game wasn’t too fast for me. The game has slowed down tremendously for me since I got in the league. It was good to get out there and get that feeling. I feel I can play at this level and that’s what it did for me.”

Nothing is promised to him, but Brohm is expected to contend for the position.

“I have an opportunity to probably get some reps with the first string unit at times,” Brohm said. “I’ve got to get out there and go for that first string job. It keeps you optimistic and makes it a lot more fun and hopefully I go out there and show the coaches what I have.”
