Von Miller of the Denver Broncos has been selected as the Associated Press 2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Miller, the second overall pick in last April's draff, received 39 of a possible 50 votes, while San Francisco's Aldon Smith got the other 11.

Miller had 11.5 sacks and 64 tackles for the Broncos.

"It's special because you only get one rookie season," Miller said. "You don't get two tries at it. It's really a one-and-done thing. That was probably the most special thing about it, you only get one shot to accomplish this feat."
