The Denver Broncos want defensive end Elvis Dumervil to take a pay cut, says the Denver Post.
Dumervil's $12 million base salary becomes guaranteed on March 17, and if he won't agree to a reduction in salary, the Broncos might entertain the possibility of cutting him loose.
If that happens, the Broncos, who landed Peyton Manning last year, might also look at bringing another Indianapolis Colts superstar castoff to town - defensive end Dwight Freeney.
Freeney, 33, is four years older than Dumervil, and probably not quite as good at this stage of their careers, but if he can be had for a much lesser salary, the Broncos can take that extra money and upgrade other positions.
