Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden did not finish Sunday's upset win over the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a concussion.
Instead, Colt McCoy, who suffered a serious concussion (and corresponding controversy) last year against the Steelers, finished up.
It is never a certainty with concussions, but the Browns are optimistic Weeden will be available next week when they face the Oakland Raiders. Weeden left the game after his helmet crashed into tackle Joe Thomas' thigh.
“It looked like (he was groggy) just because the way he was on the ground just kind of shaking his head,” Thomas told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I thought his helmet hit another guy's helmet but anytime you're getting whipped down like that and getting that whiplash effect, it's not good on the noggin.”
Browns coach Pat Shurmur said Weeden was responsive after the game.
“He's good,” said Shurmur. “We had a good conversation. Some guys come back quickly, some guys don't. We'll see where it goes.”
