The Cleveland Browns drafted University of Florida cornerback Joe Haden in the first round with the seventh overall pick.
There were plenty of rumors heading into thedraft that the Browns were supposedly cooling on Haden.
Haden was reassured when the Browns called his name.
National Football Post had learned that the Browns also contacted Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson, per a league source.
Ultimately, they wound up drafting Haden and Wilson went to the New York Jets at the 29th overall selection.
So far, Haden is off to a positive start with the Browns.
“I don’t have a lot of preliminary conclusions, I’d say that I really like the way that he’s approached things," Browns coach Eric Mangini said in remarks distributed by the team. "I think that the volume of information has been new. I’m not saying he didn’t have a large volume in college, it’s different.
"He’s done a good job and he’s been put in a lot of spots where he’s has to adjust and there’s been hiccups as well along the way. Those safeties and corners they have a lot to do. Some days it was really good and other days it was not quite as good.”
