Holmgren nonplussed about Jimmy Clausen Aaron Wilson
The Cleveland Browns have every intention of drafting a quarterback.
"It's just something we have to do," Holmgren told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Why wait? I'm 61. I don't want to wait for anyone. We're going to have to do this."
There's a catch, though.
Unless he's bluffing, and it doesn't seem like he is, Holmgren doesn't think that Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen is a fit for the Browns in the first round.
"I wish I liked him more," Holmgren said. "You know how you have a type of player that you like? It's not scientific. People like him a lot. He'll go high. But it would be hard for me [to take him]."
And Holmgren isn't necessarily sold on Tim Tebow as a second-round target, either.
"Here's the dilemma," Holmgren said. "There are areas of the football team that we really have to help -- the secondary, offensive line -- to get the team better. This year it would be pretty hard to use the second [round] pick to get a quarterback. It would be pretty hard for me.
"Next year might be easier. We've got [three picks in the third round and four in the fifth round] going for us. But I'd have to have another second-round pick [to take a quarterback in the second round]."
Holmgren never drafted a quarterback in the first or second round during his respective tenures in Green Bay and Seattle.

Holmgren is looking for a polished WCO QB. One who is ready to step in and start. Last I checked, There aren't any of those in college atm. Everyone runs either the spread or a spread option these days.
Claussen is the only top rated QB who's actually run an NFL scheme, but its the Weis offense from NE, not Holmgren's WCO.
Expect this 'I don't like him' stuff to wind up being bluster as he drafts Claussen in the first.
holmgren did not run the draft process in green bay, which is why he never drafted a qb.
Well, the media self-appointed experts have Clausen rated highly, but I have yet to see any actual NFL folks echo that opinion.
We shall see.

As I have said, I wouldn't take Clausen in the first. Holmgren I am sure is better at watching tape than I am.
