Browns to sign Earl Bennett

The Cleveland Browns plan to sign former Chicago Bears wide receiver Earl Bennett, according to KFBB-TV.

The Browns need reinforcements at receiver with Josh Gordon potentially facing a suspension for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy and Nate Burleson recently breaking his arm.

Bennett was released by the Bears in March.

Bennett has caught 185 career passes for 2,277 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In 2009, Bennett caught 54 passes for 717 yards and two touchdowns.

In 2013, he had 32 receptions for 243 yards and four touchdowns.

The transaction to cut Bennett freed up $2.45 million in salary-cap room.

Bennett is a former third-round draft pick from Vanderbilt.
