Bruce Allen says Redskins don’t believe their name is ‘offensive’

The Washington Redskins don’t have any plans to change their name.

While it’s been a topic that has been attracting more attention in recent months, it’s not a shift the team is contemplating.

General manager Bruce Allen, speaking at an appearance in Richmond, Va., where the team is breaking ground for a new training camp facility, said it was “ludicrous” to imply the club is hoping to upset Native Americans.

There's nothing that we feel is offensive,” Allen said, according to the Associated Press. “And we're proud of our history.”

The Redskins have pointed out that some 70 high schools across the nation have the nickname Redskins. That isn’t necessarily the best way to defend their position. But if the team – and the vast majority of its fan base wants to keep the name – change probably isn’t coming any time soon.
