Bruce Arians upbeat about Cardinals offense

Bruce Arians expects to hold his first staff meeting on Tuesday and get rolling as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.

The good news is after an initial overview of the team, the new head coach doesn’t believe the moribund Cardinals offense is as bad off as it would appear.

According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, Arians said the offensive line has some upside and he is pleased with the vast experience young offensive tackles Nate Potter and Bobby Massie got this past season.

The issue, though, is finding a quarterback in the bunch of Kevin Kolb, John Skelton and Ryan Lindley, or going outside the franchise for a passer. That is what ultimately did in former coach Ken Whisenhunt. The Cardinals have bungled the position since Kurt Warner went into retirement and Arians isn’t going to right the organization until the quarterback situation is resolved.

“What we have on the roster, they played well at times,” Arians said. “It's just protecting them, protecting the football a little bit better. If they are our guy, they are going to be better. I think I have a good rapport with quarterbacks. And (quarterbacks coach) Freddie (Kitchens) will do a fabulous job with the fundamental part of it, take them out to what I call the driving range, working on their fundamentals 40-45 minutes every day.”
