The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed unrestriced free agent linebacker Jon Alston today, a move that follows his recent visit with the New York Jets.
Alston, 26, is a former St. Llouis Rams third-round draft pick who played for the Oakland Raiders for the past three seasons.
The Raiders didn't tender him as a restricted free agent, making him free to sign with anyone without compensation.
The 6-foot, 235-pounder is expected to be the backup weakside linebacker behind Geno Hayes and also contribute on special teams. Last season, he started four games and registered 23 tackles.
For his career, Alston has recorded 66 tackles and two forced fumbles with 20 special-teams tackles over the past three years.
