Injuries piled up for the New York Giants last season and were a primary culprit in the team’s struggles.

Don’t look now, but 2010 is beginning to very much resemble 2009, and that’s not a good sign.

The Giants made an addition to their injury report this afternoon, one that could potentially have far-reaching effects on the season as defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka, the team’s best pass rusher, has been ruled out of the game Sunday night with the Chicago Bears with a bulging disc in his neck.

It’s not known how serious the injury is or what treatment course the team and player will elect, but Kiwaunka, who has four of the Giants’ six sacks, will not play. Kiwanuka practiced today and initially he was not on the injury report.

The Giants could be thin up front as defensive end Osi Umenyiora is questionable. He has swelling in a knee.
