Jairus Byrd is the Buffalo Bills' franchise player, but he won't be anywhere near the franchise's voluntary off-season work without a contract extension, says

Byrd was franchised for $6.9 million for one year, but is one of two players who has yet to sign his franchise tender (Denver's Ryan Clady is the other).

Franchised players have little leverage other than to stay away from off-season work and even mandatory mini-camp, withholding their services to try and jump-start negotiations or to make their point.

Franchised players have until July 15 to work a new deal or be forced to play under the franchise tender for the coming season. I
