Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been cleared to play in a preseason game Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Cam is on track to do the things we need him to do now,” coach Ron Rivera said. "We’ve mapped out a lot of things. We’re now getting to the point where the work load is going to increase and things are going to change and we’re going to do things differently now.”
Newton is still dealing with the effects of ankle surgery in March.
Last week, Newton said his ankle still isn't 100 percent.
“It’ll hurt for that little second but it’ll go away after 2-3 minutes," Newton said. "It’s a reminder that, hey, you better check yourself."
