Just because Cam Newton did not receive an invitation to the Pro Bowl on Tuesday doesn’t mean the Carolina Panthers quarterback won’t get one.
The Charlotte Observer reported Newton is the No. 1 alternate for the all-star game and that means chances are pretty good he’ll get the call at some point. He shouldn’t pack his shoulder pads away after Sunday’s season finale, anyway.
As Joe Person of the Observer points out, chances are good either Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers or New Orleans’ Drew Brees will not be available for the Pro Bowl because their team is involved in the Super Bowl. Eli Manning of the New York Giants is the third quarterback on the NFC roster, and his team is also alive for the playoffs.
That’s not what any fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons or Detroit Lions wants to hear, but it’s what Newton needs to unfold to have his ticket punched for Honolulu.
Of course, if one of the top three quarterback pulled out of the game for any other reason, it would also create an opening for Newton.

Yes, Newton is obviously more deserving than Stafford...
Ignorance
cam is way better by far than any other qb he just doesnt have a good team lets face it carolina blows something major but cam outshines anyone in the pros better believe that son
So, Newton has Steve Smith to throw to, Williams and Stewart to run the ball, and the decent protection up front and yet people want to act like he is on a TERRIBLE team that is holding him back? The only thing truly bad in Carolina is the defense which actually INFLATES Newton's numbers by forcing the O to play catch-up for 60 minutes. People need to stop exaggerating how bad the Panthers are in order to try and make their hero seem even more super-human. Stafford led his team to the playoffs with little help from his defense as well, not to mention a complete lack of running game.
@Bill Bates How do you force an offense to catch up? Having no defense doesn't give u the ability to forcefully score on demand lol. Guess what three QBS play catch up because thier defense is horrible??? Rodgers, brady, and brees... Cam Newton is super exciting and he keeps his team super close in games with his offense alone. He's not quite on the elite level , but the scores vs other teams shows that he will become clutch soon.

drew,
Since you have apparently never watched football, let me help you out. Having no defense most certainly inflates a QB's numbers since they are passing far more than when the game is close or they are leading. As to Brady, Brees and Rodgers, in the vast majority of games those teams are leading BECAUSE OF their QBs' play and not trying to come from behind simply because the defense sucks. That you conflate the two different situations goes a long way toward explaining your limited understanding of how the game is played.

How's this guy ahead of Stafford or Romo? Yes, he had a great season - but his team did not come close to sniffing the playoffs or a winning record.
