Arizona Cardinals Pro Bowl linebacker Daryl Washington returns this week from a four-game suspension for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.
He will start Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
"I'm not surprised but sometimes you expect the unexpected," Washington told reporters. "You never know what's going to happen in this league, but I think with what I've shown over the years it only makes sense."
Washington is facing another suspension next season, according to ESPN.
That's due to a domestic incident where he was accused of breaking his former girlfriend's collarbone.
That case remains in the court system, but could result in punishment from the NFL under the personal conduct policy.
