Cardinals donate $100,000 to support fallen firefighters

The Arizona Cardinals announced the team will donate $100,000 to the 100 Club of Arizona, which supports the families of police members and firefighters who are injured or killed on the job.

This donation comes quickly after 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots were killed battling a fire in northern Arizona. The blaze in Yarnell was the worst firefighting death toll in a wildfire in 80 years. According to the Cardinals web site, a contingent from the team was sent to the American Red Cross in Prescott today.

“Our hearts go out to all of those affected by the devastating and tragic events this week, especially the families of the 19 brave members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who lost their lives serving our community,” Cardinals president Michael Bidwill said, per the team’s Web site. “Our team is proud to assist the ongoing efforts and encourage our fans, the community and Arizona businesses to support these relief initiatives.”
