In the end, the Arizona Cardinals made the decision that the best man for their general manager position was in-house all along.
The club announced that vice president of player personnel Steve Keim has been promoted into the role after working out a contract today.
Keim, who started with the Cardinals franchise as a scout in 1999, will be introduced in his new role at a press conference this afternoon. Then, Keim can continue the process of searching for the club’s next head coach.
Keim, who has been instrumental in some drafts that have brought some fine defensive talent to the club, was a finalist for the GM job with the Jacksonville Jaguars. After finding a coach, he will need to focus on a search for a quarterback and some offensive linemen to shore up one of the messiest lines in the NFL.
With Keim in place, it could increase the chances the Cardinals continue pursuit of Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley to be the next head coach. He previously served as the offensive coordinator in Arizona.
