In an expected move, the Arizona Cardinals picked up the fifth-year option for cornerback Patrick Peterson.
According to records, Peterson's fifth-year base salary will be $10.081 million. Peterson was Arizona's first-round selection (fifth overall) in the 2011 NFL draft.
The deadline for the Cardinals to exercise the option on Peterson was May 3.
There's still a chance the Cardinals and Peterson work out an agreement before his fifth year. This just buys the Cardinals more time to do so.
Peterson has been an integral part to Arizona's defense. Since his rookie year, he's started every game, tallying 161 tackles (151 solo), 12 interceptions, 42 pass deflections and one sack.
