Cardinals place franchise tag on Calais Campbell

Arizona Cardinals defensive Calais Campbell is the latest player to wear the franchise tag.

The club announced this afternoon that Campbell has been tagged, meaning he will earn roughly $10.6 million this season if a long-term deal is not reached.

“We’ve made no secret of the high regard in which we hold Calais,” Cardinals general manager Rod Graves said in a statement released by the clubn. “To be clear, reaching a long-term deal that will keep Calais with the Cardinals for years to come remains our primary objective. This move today allows us the opportunity to continue working with Calais and his agent toward that goal and that’s exactly what we will do.”

Campbell made eight sacks last season and has been a strong, developing draft pick for the Cardinals.
