They’ve mostly been using the exit door in Arizona this month as players leave the Cardinals, but the team is still working to fill a few holes through free agency.

General manager Rod Graves is still working to sign outside linebacker Joey Porter in order to beef up the pass rush, reports Darren Urban, who writes for the team’s Web site. The Cardinals are still pursuing quarterbacks Charlie Whitehurst, a restricted free agent who is also being courted by Seattle, and Derek Anderson, the unrestricted free agent.

“Talks are still ongoing,” Graves said. “We’re still exploring all our options.”

The Cardinals tried to keep linebacker Karlos Dansby and safety Antrel Rolle but they left via free agency. Wide receiver Anquan Boldin was traded and quarterback Kurt Warner retired. Arizona made a run at linebacker Larry Foote and he returned to Pittsburgh. Instead, they signed well-traveled veteran Paris Lenon.

Per Urban, Porter has only visited the Cardinals and the sides remain in communication even though no deal is imminent. Graves would also like to re-sign kicker Neil Rackers.

“After that initial wave of free agency, we’re in that second wave where things don’t move quite as quickly,” Graves said. “Depending on what other teams do, you have to have the ability to adjust.”

They might take Sam Bradford with the No. 1 pick in the draft, but they could sure use one of the defensive tackles being mentioned at the top of the draft. And, boy, could they use some help at linebacker.
