Beanie Wells has yet to be cleared for a return to the field following offseason knee surgery but he’s says it’s coming along.

Wells told the team’s Web site he doesn’t have a timetable for a return but plans to be in action by the time training camp rolls around, if not sooner.

“I am hopeful, but it’s offseason stuff,” Wells said, according to Darren Urban. “Being ready for training camp is the most important thing.”

Wells was hampered by knee issues most of last season and still managed to rush for 1,047 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Cardinals’ other top back, Ryan Williams, is rehabilitating his way back from patella tendon surgery.

With any luck, the Cardinals will have a pair of backs at full strength this season.
