Kansas City Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said that Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn split reps during the team's bye week practice on Wednesday, per NFL.com.
While Crennel had said Cassel, who was out with a concussion last week, would reclaim the starting job when he was healthy, the Chiefs coach left himself the out saying Cassel had missed some time and would need to work his way back into the lineup. Cassel has struggled this season. He missed last week with the concussion, and Quinn was not particularly effective in a 38-10 throttling by Tampa Bay.
"Because (Cassel's) just getting back and he's not back all the way yet, in my mind," Crennel said. "I know he's been cleared, but he missed some time, so give them equal reps."
The Chiefs don't play again until Oct. 28 against the Oakland Raiders, and at 1-5, Crennel might be looking for anything, even a quarterback secrecy, to give his club an edge.
"I don't have to say it. What happened this week is they are getting equal reps," he said.
