CenturyLink Field will shoot for Guinness world record

CenturyLink Field has been considered the loudest stadium in the NFL for some time. Now, Seahawks fans will have a chance to prove it.

Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports that Volume 12, a Seahawks fan group, has filed an application with the Guinness Book of World Records to make a run at it in the Sept. 15 home game against the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers.

The 12th Man will have to top the record of 131.76 decibels, which was set at a Turkish soccer game in March 2011 in Istanbul.

Joe Tafoya, a former defensive end for the Seahawks, was hired by Volume 12 to help with social media and he came up with the idea.

“It occurred to me late one night, like at 3 in the morning, that there was an opportunity to do something really cool by breaking the world record,’’ Tafoya told Condotta. “I didn’t even know how to do it so I went online and saw the Guinness site and filled out an application and they responded relatively fast and accepted the application.

“The goal would be to put a noise meter somewhere that is visible for the fans to see and then get an attempt and watch the needle peak past 131.77 decibels.”
