Dolphins quarterback had criticized Heisman Trophy winner Aaron Wilson
In the wake of criticizing University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne ran a reverse today.
On Wednesday, Henne ripped the former Heisman Trophy winner, saying, "In my judgment he's not an NFL quarterback. So leave it at that."
Today, Henne downplayed those remarks and said he wasn't speaking for the Dolphins organization
"I didn't really say he wasn't wasn't able to be one," Henne told the Miami Herald. "We're all in this process, learning how to be an NFL quarterback. Obviously, he's taken the right steps to improve his game. His throwing motion actually looks a lot better with his release and everything.
"I think his Pro Day went really well and he was happy with it. I can't really say anything. My quarterback coach from college is coaching him in college. We're coming from the same people. He's obviously learned a from a lot of good people. Wherever he goes, he's going to make that team better because he's such a competitor and a great person."
Tebow is represented by agent Jimmy Sexton, who also represents Bill Parcells and Tony Sparano.
And the Dolphins' staff coached Tebow in the Senior Bowl and consistently praised the former Gators star.
So, Henne may have stepped on some toes with his remarks.
"The thing about that is that dragging the Dolphins and our coaching staff into this when it's way out of proportion," Henne said. "I never talked to them about Tebow. They never mentioned anything. It was all what I was perceived to say. I have nothing against him. I really like him as a person.
"I met him last year up there at Florida working out their receivers and got an opportunity to play against him so he really is a wonderful person and I only wish him the best."
Consider the damage control complete.

@ Diana - Fair enough, but don't go public if you think it's gonna comeback to haunt you. I personally think Tebow has such a strong desire to succeed he'll be a good pro. From what I've seen of both Henne and Tebow, Tebow appears to be the better leader as signal callers go. Still, it takes more than desire to be successful at the next level, my biggest concern with Tim Tebow is his ability to read and react to defensive schemes. While everyone else seems to be so fixated on his passing ability, his QB smarts should be the bigger worry.

This is why I love guys like Cooley and Jared Allen. Just say what you mean and stick to it. Don't do this little PR dance of giving an opinion and taking it back right away. His original evaluation wasn't unfair or malicious. He was just giving his professional opinion and saying what a lot of people are thinking. Nothing wrong with that - stand your ground, dude!
