Left tackle's back injury casts doubt on status for opener. Terry McCormick
The regular season is drawing closer, and left tackle Jared Gaither remains on the shelf for the San Diego Chargers.
The North County Times reports that Gaither underwent an MRI on his ailing back on Tuesday, as he has not practiced in more than a month.
That leaves the Chargers wondering what options they might have to use for the Sept. 10 season opener against the Oakland Raiders.
"If he doesn't practice," Chargers coach Norv Turner said, "it's going to be hard to play in the opener."
