The San Diego Chargers have placed offensive Mike Harris on injured reserve due to an ankle injury, signing offensive tackle Mike Remmers off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad.
Remmers is a 6-foot-5, 303-pounder who spent 15 weeks of last season and the first five weeks of the this season on the Buccaneers’ practice squad. At Oregon State, the former walk-on started 44 games over four seasons, including every game his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 pick as a junior and as a senior, he was a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the best player in the country who started his career as a walk-on.
Tight end Jake Byrne was signed by the Houston Texans to their active roster off the Chargers' practice squad and was replaced by tight end Ryan Otten, who went to training camp this year with the Jacksonville Jaguars after catching 126 passes for 1,720 yards and 12 touchdowns during his collegiate career at San Jose State.
Running back Kerwynn Williams, cut from the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad on Tuesday, was also signed to the Chargers' practice squad Williams was a seventh-round pick by the Colts out of Utah State. He played in one game this season, returning a kickoff for 28 yards.
To make room for Williams on the practice squad, the Chargers released running back Miguel Maysonet.
