The San Diego Chargers announced Friday night that they have officially retired jersey No. 55 in honor of linebacker Junior Seau.

Seau died last week in his Oceanside, Calif., home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Chargers held a Celebration of Life ceremony for Seau at Qualcomm Stadium with former Chargers coach Bobby Ross, LaDainian Tomlinson and Dan Fouts among the speakers. A number of former and current Chargers players attended the event. Even some of Seau's former rivals, including John Elway, John Lynch and Peyton Manning, were in attendance along with thousands of fans.
