Chargers promote Becton, cut Whittaker

The San Diego Chargers promoted offensive tackle Nick Becton to the active roster from the practice squad.

The AFC West franchise cut running back Foxxy Whittaker to create a roster spot for Becton.

The 6-foot-6, 323-pound Becton is a free agent rookie out of Virginia Tech originally signed by the team following the draft. He was released on Aug. 31 when the team reduced its roster to 53 players and immediately signed to the Chargers’ practice squad.
