The San Diego Chargers have promoted from within, naming offensive line coach Hal Hunter as the team's new offensive coordinator, according to the North County Times.

Hunter takes over as OC from Clarence Shelmon, who stepped down recently. Like Shelmon, Hunter will not have the play-calling duties on his plate. Game-day play calls will still be the responsibility of head coach Norv Turner. Hunter, meanwhile, will still coach the Chargers offensive line.

The Chargers also added Steve Fairchild as a senior offensive assistant, and still have to find a secondary coach to replace Steve Wilks, who left for the Carolina Panthers.
