Chargers sign Adrian Phillips, cut D.J. Adams

Safety signed, running back released Aaron Wilson

The San Diego Chargers signed rookie safety Adrian Phillips and cut running back D.J. Adams.

Phillips is a 5-foot-11, 210-pound safety out of Texas.

He appeared in 50 games with 28 starts over four years, recording 206 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 11 passes defensed, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

The defensive captain started all 13 games at safety last season and was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection, ranking second on the team in tackles with 82 and first in solo tackles with 50.

Phillips has also played cornerback.
