The San Diego Chargers upset the Denver Broncos, keeping themselves relevant in the AFC wild-card playoff race.

In a 27-20 victory, quarterback Philip Rivers tossed two touchdown passes to Keenan Allen.

“We didn't play well, didn't stay on the field, didn't have the ball much, and, when we did, we didn't do much with it,” said quarterback Peyton Manning, who was intercepted late in the game.

Rivers completed 12 of 20 passes for 166 yards as running badck Ryan Mathews rushed for 127 yards on 29 carries as the Chargers controlled time of possession.

The Chargers (7-7) held on by recovering an onside kick late in the game following a Broncos field goal.

“We didn't mention one word about time of possession this week,” Rivers said. “We said, 'We've got to score.' Time of possession is only important if you're scoring.”
