Chiefs players attend memorial for Belcher

The Kansas City Chiefs attended a memorial service on Wednesday for teammate Jovan Belcher, who killed first his girlfriend and then himself on Saturday morning.

''You got to try to deal with it however you deal with it, and grieve the best way for the individual,'' lineman Ryan Lilja told the Associated Press, ''and I think this is the best way for us as a team to get closure and move on and focus on football.''

Belcher shot girlfriend Kasandra Perkins, the mother of his three-month-old daughter, following an argument Saturday morning. He then drove to the Chiefs facility at Arrowhead Stadium and shot himself in the parking lot in front of head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli.

The memorial service was not open to the public.
