A couple of Kansas City Chiefs players have come under some criticism for their postgame admiration of Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning.
In its postgame report, KCTV-5 in Kansas City showed running back Jamaal Charles asking Manning for an autograph as the Broncos quarterback made his way out of the stadium to the team bus. Charles told the TV station the autograph was for his mother.
Receiver Dwayne Bowe had his picture taken with Manning and told the station, "It's Peyton Manning. Who wouldn't their picture taken with him?"
While it is a show of the respect opposing players have for Manning, some Chiefs fans and media, including the TV station's analysts took issue with the KC players being so awestruck and chummy moments after falling to 1-10 on the season.
There is certainly a debate to be had here as to what is and is not proper decorum between players on different teams.
The NFL is a business and this is the workplace for these guys. Friendships and relationships that stretch across the boundaries of just team vs. team, and it's a gray area. Many players have friendships because they have the same agent or got acquainted at the Pro Bowl, or maybe were even former teammates. The question is, did the way Charles and Bowe handled things Sunday cross a line that was already very vague and blurred to begin with?
